Arthur Brown, Jr. (1874-1957) was a well-known San Francisco Bay Area architect. Born in Oakland, CA, and educated at the University of California, Berkeley and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France, Brown designed primarily in the Beaux-Arts style of architecture. Bernard Ralph Maybeck (1869-1957) studied architecture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Returning to New York, he worked for Carrere and Hastings. Maybeck sought his fortune out West in 1890, first in Kansas City, then in San Francisco. In 1890, Maybeck married Annie White, who became his office manager.
